PARKING AND DIRECTIONS TO CONVENTION CENTER

PARKING ISSUE ON SATURDAY DUE TO 49ers HOME PLAYOFF GAME AT 1:35PM

The 49ers have made it into the playoffs with home field games on Saturday, 1/11/20.  There will be limited parking on that Saturday at the Convention Center. There are also other events in house that weekend as well with large attendance. The other event is JAMZ Cheer event in halls CD for about 2000 guest or more, and a chess tournament for about 300 guest. This does not include the Hyatt events if there are any on that day which they might have.

The challenge may be that there is not enough free parking for all guests coming to the Convention Center events. If they should run out of parking, attendee's will have to pay for parking at the surrounding lots at the prevailing rates. Those rates vary from about $40 -$60 depending on the lot. This goes for all attendee's for all of our events, not just ours.

The entire campus will be closed off and the only entrance on that day will be through Bunker Hill Drive. Tasman Drive will also be closed off at Convention Center drive. We will be screening for guest for our events only and Hyatt events to gain access to our parking. There will be a checkpoint at the bunker hill entrance with our parking staff there to screen all guests of the Convention Center and Hyatt events. This will be 5 hours or possibly earlier from kick off which is scheduled for 1:35 pm to make sure we are not letting any other guest for the stadium event into park in our lots. Again, once full, we will close off bunker hill and guests will have to park at other lots. So please pass this message on to all of your team parents and guests.   They need to be prepared to come early or informed that they might have to pay to park and walk to center.

Traffic during game days - This is also another challenge when there are stadium events and center events. Traffic will build up 4 hours prior to event and gets heavier as we get closer to game start. Please make more time to arrive. Also, at end of game, Law enforcement will set up traffic pattern in and around the area to get guests out of the area after the game. This typically starts around the 3rd quarter of game. What this means, they will change lanes around Great America Parkway to flow in one direction for the traffic out which they call counter flows. During this time, there is limited access to the center for guest and traffic is at its heaviest to get guest out of area and onto freeways.  This usually takes place for about 1-2 hours after game and then all lanes will be open and restored to original pattern. Nevertheless, it will cause delays, re-routes and for some, frustration.  We just want to make sure you are aware in advance of this happening so you can message to your teams if driving to the Convention Center that morning and afternoon. Leaving the center during the end of game you will be directed in one direction as well to freeways until the counter flow is removed and regular traffic pattern is restored.  May be best to travel by Uber or Lyft so you don’t have to worry about parking, but still need to leave enough time to fight the traffic if necessary.
